Abstract

The objective of the research is to know whether the students taught by using Previewing Strategy get better reading comprehension in descriptive text score, because the observation showed that students have low score reading comprehension in descriptive text. The research design of this research was pre-experimental desaign. The respondents of this research were the tenth grade students of AK class at SMK Darul Anwar, that consisting of 31 students. To collect the data the researcher uses test as the instrument. The data were collected through multiple chioce. The test is given before and after the treatment. Abstract

The research design of this study was descriptive. The objective of this thesis was to know the difficulties of the students in using regular and irregular verbs in simple past tense. This research was conducted in SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Banyuwangi in which the respondents were the eighth year students. They were chosen by population technique. The number of respondents in this research was 136 students. In this research, the researcher used a test as the main method of collecting data. To analyze the collected data, the reearcher used percentage method. They are 136 students as the research sample which was taken by using population. It means the Eighth Grade from VIII A to VIII E. Based on the result of the data analysis, it can be known the percentage of the students’ difficulties in using regular and irregular verbs in simple past tense is 47,5%. The number of the students that chose incorrect answer almost equal with the number of the students that chose correct answer. It shows that many students were still having difficulties in using regular and irregular verbs in simple past tense.

Abstract

Vocabulary is one basic component to be mastered. It is reasonably, remembering that the four language skills need knowledge of words because they will get nothing without vocabulary. The large the students master vocabulary the better they perform their language. This study is to measure whether there is a significant effect of Mobile Legends Game on the students’ vocabulary mastery the researcher used experimental design. The research was conducted at SMAN 1 Cluring from 1st August until 31thAugust 2018, in the academic year 2018/2019. The population of the research was Tenth grade students at SMAN 1 Cluring. They were 31 students as respondents of the research and taken by using cluster random sampling. The sample was X IPA 1 as the experimental class. The total numbers of the respondents were 31 students. The technique of collecting data was giving a test. The tests used in this research is vocabulary test in the form of multiple choice. The data was analyzed by using t-test formula. Based on the result of the data analysis of T-test formula, it can be known that the result of t- test is higher than the t table. That is 7,833 > 2,048. The degree of freedom in the level significant is 30 the valuable of ttable is 2.048 from the analysis. It shows that “There is a significant effect of Mobile Legend Game on the vocabulary mastery of the tenth grade students at SMAN 1 Cluring in the 2018/2019 Academic year. Based on the result, the English teachers could use Mobile Legends as the alternative teaching media to make students Vocabulary mastery. Further, students are suggested to use Mobile Legends to increase their vocabulary.

Abstract

Language is the most popular topic of research. Speech acts is the one of the study that can be accomplished by the researcher. Speech acts are discovered in everyday life as well asin the movie. In this research, the researcher focuses on identifying the types and functions of illocutionary speech acts in the tweets of presidential candidates in Indonesia, Jokowi & Prabowo, during the campaign period of September – April 2019. The researcher uses descriptive-qualitative design as the methodology of the research. The data collected by documentation following the Twitter accounts of both the presidential candidates and then the researcher screenshoted their tweets during September – April 2019. It was totally found 238 tweets or 143 tweets of Jokowi and 95 tweets of Prabowo that were performed as the illocutionary speech acts. There are 5 types of illocutionary speech acts occur in both Twitter account of Jokowi and Prabowo namely assertive, directive, commissive, expressive and declarative. The researcher successfully identified that expressive illocutionary speech act and the most- frequently-used by both Jokowi and Prabowo. It performs 46.7 %. And the least types of illocutionary speech act that was used by them are declarative. It performs only 3.8 %. The tweets of Jokowi performed 30 functions and the tweets of Prabowo perfomed 24 functions. The researcher suggests that this research can be useful as learning source and they can use the tweets as moduls for practice illocutionary speech acts for both teacher and students. For the next researcher, this research needs to be done further by the next researchers for understanding illocutionary speech acts more in Twitter sentences to produce complete information.

Abstract

This is descriptive qualitative research design. The respondent of the research were taken by using purposive sampling. The respondent were three English teachers in SMAN 1 Banyuwangi, SMAN 1 Giri and SMAN 1 Glagah. The data were taken by using documentation, interview and questionnaire. The researcher analyzed the data of questionnaire by using Likert scale. The result of the data analysis was determined based on the SAMR model. Based on the data analyzed by using Likert scale, the English teachers in Banyuwangi high schools often implemented SAMR in English language teaching and the index percentage was 60%. The percentage of substitution level was 67%, as a result the respondents often used technology in substitution level. The percentage of augmentation was 62%, so the English teacher in Banyuwangi high schools often implemented technology in augmentation level. In Modification level, the percentage was 62%, it means the English teachers in Banyuwangi senior high schools often used technology in modification level. The percentage of the redefinition was 50%, as a result, the English teachers of Banyuwangi high schools seldom implemented technology in redefinition level. The English teachers used technology to design the material, so students can understand the material easily. The technology mostly used was LCD and laptop as the tools, also power point and video as the media. the problem that was faced by the respondents was the weakness of WIFI signal. The teachers often used technology in substitution level, augmentation level, and modification level. Yet, the teachers seldom used technology in redefinition level. So, the English teachers are suggested to redesign the material creatively and attractively by using varied application in order to make students more creative and used internet for education by using varied application.
